By the time February rolls around, most people abandon their New Year’s Resolutions—typically because those resolutions feel too difficult to keep. But if you resolved to get—and stay—organized through 2021, the good news is that, with the right resolutions, home organization doesn’t have to feel challenging or overwhelming. In fact, it can feel downright easy.
The question is—what, exactly, are those resolutions?
A recent article from realtor.com outlined easy home organizing resolutions to help you finally get and stay organized in 2021, including:
- Institute a daily 10-minute clean-up. When you let things get completely out of order, getting organized can take a lot of time and energy. But if you spend 10 minutes every day cleaning up, staying organized is pretty simple. If you want to stay organized through 2021, carve out a few minutes at the end of every day to clean, tidy, and organize.
- Get rid of boxes and packaging. A lot of people hold on to bulky boxes, thinking they can repurpose them later. But all those boxes take up space and can make your home feel cluttered. This year, recycle boxes (and any packaging materials that are inside the boxes) as soon as you open them—and save a box if (and only if!) you have a specific and immediate reason.
- Say no to surface clutter. It’s hard to feel organized when there’s random clutter on every surface in your home. If you immediately want your space to feel more streamlined and organized, make a commitment not to let things pile up on surfaces; if you notice something sitting on a counter or table, immediately put it away and keep surfaces clear.
Bottom line? If “get and stay organized” was at the top of your list of New Year’s must-do’s, these easy resolutions will help you stay on track and organized through 2021 (and beyond!).
